Punjab Kings (PBKS) were defeated by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by six runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match number 48 in Sharjah on Sunday. RCB has qualified for the playoffs with the victory.

PBKS were well-placed at 99 for 1, chasing 165 in the 13th over. However, as has been the case in recent years, they failed to finish the project and came up just short.

After the first partnership worth 91 was severed, PBKS' problems began. After hitting a six off Shahbaz Ahmed, KL Rahul (39) ran down the wicket and cut the ball to short third man. Nicholas Pooran (3) extended his nightmare streak by top-edging Yuzvendra Chahal to deep backward square.

Markram (20) ended a slower ball from George Garton towards long-on, things became much worse for PBKS. After losing two fast wickets, PBKS were left with only three overs to score 37 runs. The equation was reduced to 27 off 12 with a six from Shahrukh Khan off Harshal Patel, but it was still challenging.

PBKS had gotten off to another strong start in the pursuit earlier. When Siraj got PBKS skipper Rahul lbw with a more offcut that jagged back in, RCB felt they had him earlier. Rahul instantly analyzed the ruling and escaped with an inside edge, as evidenced by replays.

At the end of the powerplay, Rahul and Mayank led PBKS to 49 without a loss. Agarwal pulled Garton for a six over square leg in the fourth over. Rahul greeted Shahbaz with a tossed-up delivery over the ropes when he came on to bowl.

Dan Christian gave Agarwal two easy boundaries in his first over, putting PBKS in a strong position in the chase. In Chahal's 10th over, Agarwal hit two more fours as PBKS reached a solid 81 for no loss.

Everything appeared to be under control, but RCB knew PBKS were only one wicket away from panicking.
