Australia overtaking England

After its 2-1 series win over India, who are ranked sixth, Australia jumped to the top of the ICC World Cup Super ODI League points table on Wednesday.

Australia moved to 40 points with the series victory, overtaking England, who are now ranked second.

On the other hand, by winning the 3rd and final ODI, India registered their first points of the tournament and are ranked sixth with 9 points.

With outstanding performance in all departments, the Australia team lead by Aaron Finch were clinical in their approach, beating Virat Kohli and his men in the first two matches of the series.

In the 3rd ODI match in Canberra, Indian debutant T Natarajan dismissed Marnus Labuschagne after half-centuries from Virat Kohli and all-rounder Hardik Pandya (92 not out) andRavindra Jadeja Jadeja (66 not out), to pick up his maiden international wicket.

In their previous 13-team championship series, Australia defeated England 2-1. The series was introduced this year to add context to ODI cricket and also to determine the 7 direct qualifiers for the 2023 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup.

India was to use the chance for long-term preparation, although it was assured of a berth as hosts.

England, the reigning world cup winner, who has 30 points in hand, beat Ireland 2-1 in the opening series of the championship before losing to 5 times world champions Australia by the same margin.

Pakistan is also on 20 points following a 2-1 series victory over Zimbabwe, who won 10 points for their Super Over victory in the final ODI held in Rawalpindi.
