ESPNCricinfo reported that, after losing a year-long fight with brain cancer, England star all-rounder Ben Stokes' father, Ged Stokes, reportedly passed away at the age of 65. As stated in the report, Ged Stokes’s former club, Workington Town, where he played one season in 1982-83, before returning as coach in 2003, made the announcement about the death of the former New Zealand rugby league international.
The club wrote on Twitter, "It is with great sadness that we learn that our former player and coach Ged Stokes has passed away." Ged is inscribed in the rich fabric of the history of the town and will be deeply missed.
Ged Stokes was first diagnosed with the brain cancer one year ago, and in the wake of his sickness, Ben Stokes was given indefinite leave during the Test series of England against Pakistan, so he could spend time with his family.
Rajasthan Royals posted on Twitter to express their condolences.
