Pakistan beat Zimbabwe by 11 runs in the first T20I at the Harare Sports Club on Wednesday thanks to Mohammad Rizwan's unbeaten half-century.

Rizwan was the lone batsman for his side, scoring 82, not out in 20 overs as they posted 149 for seven.

The hosts, who failed to qualify for the T20 World Cup in India later this year, were consistently behind the pace and could only muster 138 for seven in response.

After being sent in to bat, Rizwan dominated the Pakistan innings with 82 off 61 balls. No one else scored more than 15, with off-spinner Wesley Madhevere taking 2-11 from two overs to lead the home bowling attack.

Craig Ervine top-scored for Zimbabwe with 34 runs, but he was bowled by leg-spinner Usman Qadir (3-29), who also took the crucial wicket of home captain Sean Williams (9). Usman, the son of former Pakistani great Abdul Qadir, made his debut in the recent South African series.

Brendan Taylor, Zimbabwe's most experienced batsman, was forced to withdraw from the game due to a stomach bug.

On Friday, the second game of the three-game series will be played at the same venue. Two tests will accompany the limited-overs fixtures.
