Cricket score: Find out the reason why Rabada missed out on a hat-trick despite taking three wickets on three consecutive legal deliveries
Kagiso Rabada starred with the ball as the Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by seventeen runs to progress into the final of the IPL for the first time. On 10th November, DC will play against defending champions and four-time winners Mumbai Indians (MI) in the final.
For 29 runs off his four overs, the South Africa pacer took four wickets and took the lead in the Purple Cap's race as well. Out of 16 matches, he now has 29 wickets, 2 wickets ahead of second-placed Jasprit Bumrah. Both of the bowlers will be up against each other in the final encounter.
By picking 3 wickets on as many legal deliveries in the 19th over, Kagiso Rabada ended the hopes of Sunrisers Hyderabad. With Sunrisers Hyderabad needing 30 runs from the last 2 overs, the game was set for an exciting end. Sunrisers Hyderabad were still in the match, with Rashid Khan able to hit the big shot and Abdul Samad looking in good touch.
For Sunrisers Hyderabad, the over began on a good note with Samad hitting the 2nd delivery of the Proteas star for a six. But Kagiso Rabada accounted for Samad on the very next ball before dismissing Rashid Khan and Shreevats Goswami on the next two deliveries.
But it was not a hat-trick, despite taking those 3 wickets on 3 consecutive legal deliveries. Well, the reason behind this was the wide bowl that he bowled on the fourth ball after taking a wicket. Although he instantly took a wicket the next ball, a wide in between 2 dismissals did not allow Kagiso Rabada to gain a hat-trick.
According to the rules, for it to be counted as a hat-trick, a bowler has to take 3 wickets off 3 consecutive legal deliveries. The Delhi Capitals pace spearhead bowled a wide in this case, and thus could not accomplish the feat.
